NSW Police have issued an arrest warrant for a 45-year-old man wanted over the alleged attempted murder of an elderly resident in Sydney’s west.
Police released images of Corum Ash on Sunday evening as investigators continued searching for him in connection with a violent incident in Yennora. Authorities said the outstanding warrant relates to an alleged attempted murder.
Ash is described as being of Caucasian appearance, between 170 and 175 centimetres tall, with a medium build, short black hair and black eyes. Police said he was unshaven in the images released to the public.
Investigators believe he uses public transport and may visit Carlingford, Fairfield and surrounding suburbs. Members of the public have been warned not to approach him and should instead contact police immediately.
The investigation began after a 74-year-old man was found unconscious beside the road near the intersection of Orchardleigh Street and Junction Road in Yennora during the early hours of Saturday morning.
The injured man had suffered a serious head wound. Paramedics treated him at the scene before transporting him to Westmead Hospital, where he underwent surgery. He remained in critical condition with relatives at his bedside when police released their latest appeal.
The local father of three had reportedly left home about 30 minutes earlier for his usual early-morning walk. A passer-by discovered him and called Triple Zero, prompting an emergency response from police and ambulance crews.
Detective Acting Inspector Brenton Sommerville described the incident as an alleged “cowardly and callous” attack on a vulnerable member of the community.
Police are urging anyone who sees Ash, knows where he may be staying or has information about the alleged assault to contact authorities. The investigation remains active, and the allegations have not been tested in court.
