Jeremy Crawshaw is set to become the latest Australian punter to make it to the NFL after being selected by the Denver Broncos.

The 23-year-old, hailing from Emu Plains in Sydney’s west, was the first punter picked in the draft — taken in the sixth round at selection 216 — after being widely regarded as the best available following his five seasons at the University of Florida.

In 2024, Crawshaw averaged 45.8 yards per punt for the Gators, with 25 punts landing inside the 20-yard line.

During the 2023 season, he set a University of Florida single-season record with a 48.9-yard punting average.

Crawshaw will now compete with veteran Matt Haack for the Broncos’ starting punter position.

He is set to join a strong group of Australian punters in the NFL, including Tory Taylor (Chicago), Mitch Wishnowsky (San Francisco), Michael Dickson (Seattle), and Cameron Johnston (Pittsburgh).

A scouting report prior to the draft described Crawshaw as a likely immediate starter with the potential to be a key weapon for field position.

“His ability to perform multiple punt styles — from powerful, traditional punts to rugby-style rollers — provides special teams coordinators with great flexibility,” the report said.

“Having thrived in high-pressure SEC (Southeastern Conference) games and showing consistent improvement throughout college, Crawshaw has clearly established himself as the top punter of this draft.

“His potential points to a career spanning over a decade in the NFL, with the possibility of Pro Bowl honors.”

Crawshaw was the sixth player drafted by Denver.
