Australia’s Minjee Lee has climbed to within a shot of the lead at the halfway mark of the LPGA Tour’s LA Championship.

Lee delivered a flawless second-round performance, carding a 7-under-par 65 with seven birdies at El Caballero Country Club.

She now sits at 12-under for the tournament, holding outright third place behind co-leaders Ashleigh Buhai and Ingrid Lindblad.

Sweden’s Lindblad fired a career-best 63 in the second round, while South African Major winner Buhai posted a 68.

At 28, Lee is a 10-time LPGA Tour champion and is chasing her first tour title since October 2023.

She previously claimed the LA Championship crown in 2019, though that event was held at Wilshire Country Club. This year’s tournament is being staged at El Caballero while Wilshire undergoes renovations.

Reflecting on her strong round, Lee credited a straightforward approach for her success.

“I think it’s about being in good positions off the tee and hitting solid iron shots into the greens,” Lee said. “Some of the greens here are a little larger with bigger landing areas.”

Fellow Australians Hannah Green — aiming for a third consecutive LA Championship victory — and Steph Kyriacou are also in the mix, tied for 20th place at 8-under.
