At least several people have been killed and more injured after a car crashed into a street festival in Vancouver, Canada, on Saturday night. The incident took place during the city’s “Lapu Lapu Day” celebration, which honors Vancouver’s Filipino community.

According to Vancouver Police, an SUV sped into the crowd as thousands were attending the festival. The crash occurred right after the final performance of the evening, as reported by local media and witnesses.

While police have not confirmed the exact number of fatalities, they stated that a “number of people” were killed. The driver has been taken into custody.

Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim expressed his shock and sadness on social media, offering his condolences to the victims and the Filipino community in the city. “Our thoughts are with all those affected,” he said, addressing the tragedy.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney also shared his devastation, expressing gratitude to the first responders for their quick actions in the aftermath. “We are monitoring the situation closely,” he added.
