Around 35 people lost their lives in a tragic incident in Pakistan as an explosion occurred during a rally organised by the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), an Islamist party.

The incident took place in the north-west Bajaur district, also leaving some 200 others injured. The area has been sealed off by authorities, and they anticipate that the death toll may increase.

The cause of the blast has not been confirmed by the police yet.

Rescue operations are underway to assist the injured, with ambulances transporting them to hospitals in the Bajaur district, which is located in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province near the Afghanistan border.

The situation has overwhelmed local health clinics, with severely injured individuals waiting in hallways due to the high number of casualties.

In response to the magnitude of the incident, a health emergency has been declared at the district hospital. Additionally, local officials have reported that a regional leader of the JUI-F, Maulana Ziaullah, was among those killed in the explosion.
