Jeff Bezos has completed a significant sale of Amazon shares, netting nearly US$5.7 billion since his wedding in late June.

The selling spree began around his wedding weekend in Venice, where he sold US$737 million in Amazon stock. These sales were part of a prearranged plan covering up to 25 million shares, established earlier this year. According to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing on Friday (Jul 25), Bezos sold the final 4.2 million shares on July 23 and 24, bringing in US$954 million.

These divestments come as Amazon’s stock has rallied 38% since its April low. The company is set to report earnings next week, with investors watching closely to see whether its major investments in artificial intelligence will pay off. Since 2002, Bezos has sold over US$50 billion worth of Amazon stock, according to Bloomberg data.

Neither Bezos nor Amazon has commented on the latest sale.

Despite the selloff, Bezos retains roughly 884 million Amazon shares, representing more than 8% of the company. He remains the world’s third-richest person, with an estimated net worth of US$252.3 billion—most of which is tied to his Amazon holdings, based on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. All recent sales were conducted under a 10b5-1 trading plan, a structure used by executives to avoid potential insider-trading violations.

Bezos regularly sells Amazon stock. Last year, he sold 75 million shares, earning US$13.6 billion, and often uses the proceeds to fund ventures like his space company, Blue Origin. In 2025, he has also donated approximately US$190 million in Amazon shares to non-profit organizations.

Interestingly, Bezos has only purchased Amazon stock once in over two decades—buying a single share for US$114.77 two years ago.

So far this year, Bezos’ US$5.7 billion in stock sales far surpass those of other top executives, including Oracle CEO Safra Catz (US$2.5 billion) and Dell Technologies founder Michael Dell (US$1.2 billion).
