Liverpool City Council has showcased the transformation of Pye Hill Reserve in Cecil Hills as part of its continuing investment in parks, recreational facilities and public spaces across the rapidly growing Liverpool area.
The upgraded reserve was recently celebrated during the second event in Council’s Block Party series, an initiative designed to encourage residents to discover neighbourhood parks, meet other members of their community and make greater use of local outdoor facilities.
The community event at Pye Hill Reserve included live entertainment, food trucks, family-friendly activities and the official unveiling of a commemorative plaque marking the completion of the major improvements.
More Than $3.5 Million Invested in Pye Hill Reserve
More than $3.5 million has been invested in upgrades at Pye Hill Reserve through combined funding from the Australian Government, NSW Government and Liverpool City Council.
The investment has delivered an inclusive playground as well as an expanded regional trail connection, providing Cecil Hills residents with improved opportunities for recreation, exercise and community interaction.
The project is described by Liverpool City Council as its most extensive park upgrade undertaken to date.
Liverpool Mayor Ned Mannoun said the transformation demonstrates Council’s commitment to creating modern and high-quality public spaces for residents.
He said the completed reserve provides a welcoming and inclusive environment where families can gather, children can play and residents of different ages can enjoy outdoor recreation.
The Mayor also expressed pride in delivering a green space designed to meet the needs of the local community as Liverpool continues to grow.
Inclusive Playground Designed for Children of All Abilities
Accessibility and inclusion have been central to the redevelopment of Pye Hill Reserve.
The new playground has been designed to allow children with different abilities to participate in play and recreation together.
A range of accessible play equipment has been installed, complemented by rubber soft-fall surfacing to create a safer and more comfortable environment.
Shade structures have also been added, along with picnic areas that give families and community groups places to gather and spend time at the reserve.
New pathways improve movement throughout the site, while native landscaping has been incorporated into the redevelopment to enhance the reserve’s natural surroundings.
An accessible amenities building is another major component of the project, helping make the park more practical and welcoming for people with different mobility and accessibility requirements.
Connections throughout the reserve have also been improved, making it easier for residents to walk, exercise and access surrounding areas.
Australian Government Backs Liverpool Infrastructure Projects
Federal Minister for Regional Development, Local Government and Territories Kristy McBain welcomed the completion of the Pye Hill Reserve works and highlighted the broader partnership between the Australian Government and Liverpool City Council.
McBain said Pye Hill Reserve was one of several projects being delivered through cooperation between the two levels of government.
Liverpool City Council has received more than $13.4 million through the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program, according to the Minister.
She said projects such as the Pye Hill Reserve redevelopment demonstrate how partnerships between different levels of government can deliver infrastructure and community facilities that directly benefit local residents.
The playground component of the redevelopment involved approximately $2 million in funding contributed by the Australian Government, NSW Government and Liverpool City Council.
NSW Investment Helps Transform Local Green Space
NSW Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully also welcomed the redevelopment, pointing to the state government’s investment in transforming the reserve.
Scully said close to $2 million from the NSW Government had helped turn Pye Hill Reserve into a more vibrant, accessible and welcoming destination for residents of different ages and abilities.
He emphasised the wider importance of neighbourhood parks, describing public open spaces as effectively the backyards of local communities.
Well-designed parks provide more than playgrounds and recreational infrastructure. They can encourage physical activity, improve opportunities for social interaction and contribute to healthier lifestyles.
Quality green spaces can also improve the attractiveness and liveability of surrounding neighbourhoods.
Cecil Hills Community Embraces Upgraded Reserve
Member for Liverpool Charishma Kaliyanda said residents of Cecil Hills have a strong sense of pride in their neighbourhood and regularly express the importance of having quality green spaces nearby.
She said the redevelopment of Pye Hill Reserve responds directly to those expectations.
According to Kaliyanda, the benefits of the project have already become visible in everyday community life.
Over the past year, children have been using the playground, residents have been walking their dogs and people have taken advantage of the reserve’s improved connections for walking and exercise.
The level of community use demonstrates the role upgraded parks can play in creating active and connected neighbourhoods.
