Nepal Prime Minister Balen Shah has assured families affected by the devastating Rasuwa floods that the government will provide full support for rescue, medical treatment, food, shelter and recovery efforts.
Expressing deep sorrow over the loss of lives and widespread destruction caused by the disaster, Shah said the scale of the damage had shocked the nation and that the government stands firmly with affected communities during the crisis.
In a statement shared on social media, the prime minister offered condolences to families who lost loved ones and promised that all available state resources would be used to assist survivors.
Rescue operations launched immediately
Prime Minister Shah said security agencies were mobilised immediately after the disaster.
The Nepal Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police were deployed to conduct search and rescue missions across flood-affected areas.
According to Shah, more than 250 people have already been rescued through Nepal Army helicopter operations, with injured survivors transported to Kathmandu for medical care.
Rescue teams continue searching for missing people as authorities work to determine the full scale of casualties and damage.
Emergency medical support expanded
The government has arranged special medical facilities for flood victims.
Shah said 100 hospital beds have been reserved at Bir Hospital and the National Trauma Centre in Kathmandu to provide free treatment for injured survivors.
Other major hospitals in the capital have also been placed on standby to handle additional emergency cases.
Medical teams, including doctors and health workers from security agencies, have been deployed to disaster-hit locations to provide immediate treatment and emergency assistance.
The Nepal Scouts and the World Health Organization have also supported the response by sending medical personnel, rescue workers and essential health supplies.
Coordination with humanitarian organisations
The government is working with several organisations to strengthen emergency healthcare services.
Coordination has been established with blood transfusion centres, Bagmati and Gandaki provincial health authorities, Nepal Red Cross Society, Lions Club and Nepal Scouts to ensure sufficient medicines, blood supplies and medical support for victims.
Worst-affected areas identified
Prime Minister Shah said several areas have suffered severe damage from the flooding.
The worst-hit locations include Bidur in Nuwakot; Uttargaya and Gosainkunda in Rasuwa; Gajuri, Galchhi, Benighat, Tripurasundari and Siddhalek in Dhading; and Shahid Lakhan and Gandaki Rural Municipality in Gorkha.
Government teams are continuing assessments in these areas to determine the extent of destruction and humanitarian needs.
Relief and reconstruction plans
Shah said the government will immediately provide essential assistance, including food, clean drinking water, medicines and temporary shelter for displaced families.
He also announced that rebuilding damaged infrastructure will be a priority, including roads, bridges, electricity networks and drinking water systems.
The government will work to relocate families living in unsafe areas and support communities during the recovery phase.
“State is standing with you with all its resources and means,” Shah said, urging affected communities to remain patient and encouraging social organisations, businesses, volunteers and citizens to support rescue and relief efforts.
