The Central Coast Mariners’ A-League Women elimination final against Canberra United has been postponed after heavy rain left the Gosford pitch unplayable.
The Mariners, who finished fourth, were scheduled to face Canberra at Central Coast Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
However, due to the pitch’s poor condition, the match has been pushed back to Monday evening, provided the field is deemed fit for play by then.
“The Australian Professional Leagues (APL), in consultation with the participating clubs, has made the decision to postpone today’s A-League Women elimination final between the Central Coast Mariners and Canberra United,” the APL announced.
“After significant rainfall in Gosford over the past 24 hours and with up to 50mm more expected today, the saturated pitch has been ruled unfit for play.
“The match will now be rescheduled for tomorrow night (Monday, 28 April), with kick-off at 6pm AEST, pending a further inspection of the pitch in the morning.”
Meanwhile, third-placed Adelaide United will still host sixth-placed Western United at Coopers Stadium on Sunday afternoon for the other elimination final.
The highest-ranked winner from the two elimination matches will meet second-placed Melbourne Victory in a two-legged semi-final.
The lower-ranked winner will face unbeaten premiers Melbourne City, also over two legs.
Melbourne City were officially awarded the Premier’s Plate on Saturday night.
