Pakistan’s military has raised the death toll from recent Indian airstrikes to 31, with at least 46 more injured, according to a statement from military spokesperson Lt. General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, as reported by Reuters.

Earlier, Pakistani authorities had reported 26 fatalities. The military confirmed that India carried out coordinated attacks on 24 installations across six locations, using various types of weaponry.

Indian media outlet NDTV, citing its own sources, reported a significantly higher figure—around 70 deaths from the strikes on Pakistani territory.

The escalation follows a gun attack and casualties in Pehelgam, located in Indian-administered Kashmir. In retaliation, India reportedly launched 24 missile strikes on nine sites in both Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir on the night of May 6.

The strikes caused not only human casualties but also damage to residential homes and mosques, according to initial reports.

In response, Pakistan has claimed to have shot down five Indian fighter jets in Jammu and Kashmir. Additionally, 15 fatalities have been reported on the Indian side of the Line of Control, allegedly due to Pakistani military action.

Reacting to the situation, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has authorized the country’s armed forces to deliver a “fitting response” to the Indian aggression. The Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that full military retaliation has been greenlit.
