The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) of Bangladesh has summoned British MP Tulip Rizwana Siddiq—niece of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina—for questioning in a bribery case involving Eastern Housing Limited.
According to a notice issued by the ACC on May 8, Tulip has been asked to appear at the commission’s head office in Dhaka on May 14 at 10:00 AM. She is accused of accepting a flat as an illegal “gratification” in connection with a suspicious property transfer in Gulshan, Dhaka.
The ACC alleges that Siddiq received the flat in exchange for facilitating the unlawful transfer of a government-leased plot originally allocated in 1963, which was prohibited from being sold or subdivided for 99 years. Despite legal restrictions, Eastern Housing was allegedly allowed to construct and sell 36 flats on the plot—activities deemed illegal as the company was neither the leaseholder nor a legal successor.
Also summoned in the same case are Shah Khosruzzaman and Sardar Mosharraf Hossain, former assistant legal advisors of RAJUK, who reportedly played a role in approving the transfer.
The investigation further claims that Siddiq used her influence to secure these approvals, violating multiple sections of the Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act of 1947.
A seven-member ACC team, led by Deputy Director Md. Monirul Islam, is overseeing the probe, which also includes broader investigations into alleged corruption involving members of Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana’s families.
This isn’t the first time Tulip Siddiq has faced such allegations—she was previously named in a corruption case related to plot allocations in Purbachal. In that case, an arrest warrant was issued against her, and multiple charge sheets were filed implicating high-profile individuals, including ministers and officials from the Housing Ministry.
