Authorities in India’s capital have significantly strengthened security arrangements ahead of the weekend as large crowds are expected to join ongoing demonstrations led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP). Delhi Police have reinforced security at several sensitive locations by installing multiple layers of iron barricades secured with heavy-duty chains and welding them together to prevent unauthorized movement or attempts to breach restricted zones.
The enhanced security measures come amid the continuing nationwide agitation demanding reforms to India’s examination system and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged NEET examination paper leak. With protest organizers calling for sustained demonstrations, police anticipate a noticeable increase in the number of participants over the weekend.
According to officials, the strongest security arrangements have been put in place around Jantar Mantar, the main protest site, as well as other strategically important locations across the New Delhi district. Authorities say the reinforced barricades are designed to make it difficult for anyone to dismantle or relocate them during large public gatherings.
In addition to physical barriers, Delhi Police have expanded surveillance operations throughout the city. Security personnel are being deployed in greater numbers across New Delhi, Central Delhi, and North Delhi, where officials expect possible attempts by demonstrators to march toward restricted or high-security areas.
Senior police officers have instructed all district units to remain on maximum alert throughout the weekend. Local police stations have also been directed to maintain updated records of individuals with criminal histories or previous involvement in law-and-order incidents to help prevent any attempt to exploit the ongoing protests for unlawful activities.
Police sources further claimed that facial recognition systems installed near the protest venue have identified more than 2,500 individuals with criminal backgrounds entering the area over recent days. The technology is reportedly being used to notify field officers in real time, allowing authorities to monitor such individuals discreetly and carry out identity verification whenever necessary.
As part of the broader security operation, anti-sabotage inspections, intensified vehicle screening, and increased patrols have also been implemented across sensitive areas of the capital. These measures are intended to reduce potential security risks while ensuring public safety during the demonstrations.
Delhi Police have emphasized that the heightened security arrangements are precautionary and are aimed at allowing peaceful protests to continue while preventing violence, vandalism, or any disruption to public order during the expected influx of demonstrators over the weekend.
