Global Condolences Pour In After Bangladesh Air Force Jet Crashes into School
The tragic crash of a Bangladesh Air Force training fighter jet on the grounds of Milestone School and College in Uttara Diabari, Dhaka, has cast a somber shadow across the globe. The devastating incident resulted in at least 20 fatalities, including the pilot, and injured more than 171 others—many critically.
In heartfelt messages on Monday, leaders and diplomats from around the world—including India, Pakistan, Japan, the European Union, and Switzerland—extended their condolences and pledged support for Bangladesh during this time of national mourning.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the loss, stating, “I am deeply saddened by the tragic plane crash in Dhaka that claimed many lives, including young students. Our heartfelt condolences go to the bereaved families.” He also wished the injured a swift recovery and affirmed, “India stands with Bangladesh and is ready to offer all possible assistance.”
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also issued a message of sympathy: “The loss of lives, especially children, in the Milestone School crash is heartbreaking. Pakistan stands in solidarity with the people of Bangladesh.” His deputy, Ishaq Dar, echoed this sentiment on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), extending condolences and wishes for the injured’s recovery.
Naoki Takahashi, Acting Chargé d’Affaires of the Japanese Embassy in Dhaka, offered condolences on behalf of Japan: “We stand with Bangladesh in this moment of sorrow. The dedication shown by rescue workers, medical personnel, and local authorities deserves commendation.” He reiterated Japan’s commitment to supporting the victims.
The European Union delegation in Dhaka expressed “deep sadness” over the tragedy, offering sympathies to the victims and their families. Similarly, the Swiss Embassy called the incident “shocking” and extended its “deepest condolences to the families affected.”
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) also acknowledged the bravery of Flight Lieutenant Mohammad Tawkir Islam, who made every effort to steer the plane away from densely populated areas. Despite his heroic actions, the jet crashed into a school building—an act of sacrifice that the nation will remember with pride.
This outpouring of international sympathy reinforces that Bangladesh is not alone. In this time of profound grief, it is clear that friendly nations stand united in support and solidarity.
