Iran-aligned Houthi forces in Yemen have claimed attacks against Saudi Arabia, escalating regional tensions as U.S. President Donald Trump considers further military action against Iran amid a widening Middle East conflict.
The Houthis said they launched strikes targeting Saudi interests as part of their response to regional developments, while Saudi Arabia moved to strengthen defences around critical infrastructure and energy assets. The attacks have increased concerns over the security of oil supplies and shipping routes in the Red Sea region.
The escalation comes as Washington weighs additional pressure on Tehran, with Trump warning that Iran could be held responsible for actions by groups aligned with it, including the Houthis. U.S. officials have said future attacks by Iran-backed groups could trigger a stronger response.
Energy markets have reacted sharply to the rising uncertainty. Traders are closely watching developments around major maritime chokepoints, including the Red Sea and the Strait of Hormuz, where disruptions could affect global oil supplies and fuel prices.
