A man has been questioned by police following the discovery of a body on the roadside in Morwell, located in eastern Victoria.

Authorities believe the victim, a 40-year-old father from Traralgon, was walking beneath the Princes Way overpass on the Princes Freeway when he was likely struck by a vehicle. His body was discovered around 9:00am on Thursday by a passing commuter.

Sergeant Mark Amos from the major collision investigation unit stated that the victim may have been lying in the grass for up to eight hours. “He was found next to the barrier with injuries consistent with being hit by a vehicle,” Amos told the ABC.

Investigators spent most of Thursday gathering evidence at the scene. Later that day, a 28-year-old man from Lakes Entrance was arrested in Bairnsdale, approximately 128 kilometres away. He was interviewed and subsequently released without charge as investigations continue.

Police are urging anyone who was driving in the area between 1am and 9am on Thursday, May 22, to come forward with any relevant information. They are also requesting the public to check any road-facing CCTV footage for potential evidence.
