Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios will miss Wimbledon again, extending his absence to three years after suffering a new injury setback.

Kyrgios has not competed at Wimbledon since his runner-up finish to Novak Djokovic in 2022, having battled knee, foot, and wrist injuries since then.

He had planned to make a doubles appearance at the French Open alongside Jordan Thompson but withdrew due to a knee injury, which also means he won’t be able to participate at Wimbledon this year.

On Tuesday, Kyrgios shared the news on Instagram, stating: “I’ve hit a small setback in my recovery and unfortunately won’t make it back for grass season this year.”

He apologized to fans and assured them he was working hard to come back stronger.

Now 30 years old, Kyrgios faces a challenging road ahead to revive his career, which has been plagued by injuries since late 2022.

This year, he has played just four singles matches, recording his first win in over two years at the Miami Open in March.

With his Wimbledon withdrawal, Kyrgios’s only Grand Slam appearance so far in 2023 remains his first-round exit at the Australian Open — one out of a possible eleven major events.

Jordan Thompson recently expressed sympathy for Kyrgios’s ongoing struggles, revealing that the player has been emotionally worn down by his injuries.

“He was pretty down. He said he doesn’t know how much more he can take,” Thompson said. “He loves tennis and being on court, so it’s really disappointing for him that he can’t play.”
