Flight Lieutenant Md. Tauqir Islam, the pilot of the Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft that crashed in Uttara, Dhaka, has been confirmed dead. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced the news on the afternoon of Monday, July 21.

Tauqir’s friend and activist Sayeed Abdullah shared a heartfelt message on Facebook, stating that Tauqir was alive when taken to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) shortly after the crash. Despite an hour-long effort to save him, he tragically succumbed to his injuries.

According to the ISPR, the accident claimed a total of 19 lives.

They also noted that Flight Lieutenant Tauqir Islam made a valiant effort to divert the aircraft away from densely populated areas to minimize casualties. Unfortunately, the plane ultimately crashed into a two-story building within the Milestone School and College campus, leading to devastating consequences.
