Tasmania Police have identified the man whose body was found in an industrial-sized bin in Hobart on Monday and are urging the public to provide any information about his recent whereabouts.
With the family’s consent, the man has been named as 45-year-old Luke Jon Telega.
On Monday morning, a garbage contractor discovered the body inside a large industrial waste bin in the Hobart suburb of Bellerive, initially mistaking it for a mannequin.
“Mr. Telega was last seen alive at 10 p.m. on Saturday, but there is still a gap in the timeline until his body was found by the contractor on Monday morning,” said Detective Inspector David Gill.
“Today, detectives have spoken with members of the community, conducted door-to-door inquiries at homes and businesses, and reviewed CCTV footage.”
Police returned to Percy Street in Bellerive on Tuesday, the location where the body was found behind a business.
“An autopsy was performed earlier today, but its findings will not be publicly disclosed,” Detective Inspector Gill said.
“However, police confirmed there were no visible injuries.”
Authorities are keeping an open mind, considering the death could be a result of misadventure, foul play, or a combination of both.
Tasmania Police are requesting anyone in Bellerive or the greater Hobart area with information that might assist the investigation to call 131 444.
