Queensland police have seized a vehicle as they continue searching for the driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of a 20-year-old man in Greenbank, south of Brisbane.

Emergency services were called to Middle Road at about 8.45pm on Monday after reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle.

The young man suffered critical injuries and died at the scene despite assistance from people nearby and the arrival of emergency crews.

Police said the driver involved in the collision failed to remain at the scene, prompting an urgent investigation to identify everyone connected to the incident.

Detectives have since located and seized a black Ford Falcon without registration plates. The vehicle is expected to undergo forensic examination as investigators work to determine whether it was involved in the crash.

Detective Inspector Ian Galpin said officers spoke with the victim’s friends when they arrived. Those friends had immediately attempted to assist the injured man, but he died shortly afterwards.

Investigators are also seeking information about two other vehicles seen in the area around the time of the collision.

Police want to speak with the driver of a white Toyota LandCruiser and the driver of a dark-coloured utility vehicle, both of which were reportedly in the vicinity when the crash occurred.

Inspector Galpin expressed condolences to the victim’s relatives, friends and the wider Greenbank community.

He described the young man’s death as a devastating incident, particularly for those who witnessed the collision and tried to help at the scene.

Police are continuing to review evidence and establish the movements of vehicles travelling through Middle Road on Monday night.

Members of the public who witnessed the crash, saw suspicious vehicle activity in the area or have dashcam or CCTV footage are being urged to contact investigators.

Anyone with relevant information can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
