A police operation on the Sydney Harbour Bridge has caused major disruptions to the city’s rail network, with authorities urging commuters to seek alternative transport or use the Metro.
The incident coincided with crowds heading to Monday afternoon’s NRL match between the West Tigers and Parramatta Eels, compounding the delays.
Services on the T1 North Shore Line between Wynyard and North Sydney were temporarily suspended, and passengers were advised to consider other options. Metro services remain available as an alternative for those affected.
The disruption also spread to multiple other train lines, including the T1 Western, T9 Northern, T2 Leppington & Inner West, T3 Liverpool & Inner West, T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra, T6 Lidcombe & Bankstown, and T8 Airport & South lines.
In addition, two northbound and one southbound traffic lanes on the Harbour Bridge were closed during the operation, causing traffic congestion and prompting warnings for motorists to allow extra travel time.
Emergency services and traffic crews were on-site managing the situation.
Other services, including the T7 Olympic Park, T9 Northern, T8 Airport & South, South Coast, and Southern Highlands lines, also experienced delays.
Transport authorities advised passengers to check for service updates, listen for announcements, and expect stops to change at short notice while allowing extra time for travel.
