13 days to go: Albanese’s running on adrenaline

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese drew on his deeply rooted personal values this Easter Sunday—faith, football, and family—as part of his campaign to secure a second term in the upcoming May 3 federal election.

Accompanied by his fiancée Jodie Haydon, Albanese began the day attending Easter Mass at St Mary’s Cathedral in Sydney, a cornerstone of the city’s Catholic community. The visit was more than symbolic—it was a return to familiar ground. Albanese once studied at St Mary’s College, located next to the cathedral, and recalled fond memories of school dances and student life as he chatted with Sydney Archbishop Anthony Fisher and Father Don Richardson before the service.

Albanese often speaks of the three pillars his mother Maryanne instilled in him: faith in the Catholic Church, passion for the South Sydney Rabbitohs rugby league team, and loyalty to the Labor Party. On Easter Sunday, he embraced the first two in a public display of connection and conviction—hoping they will help power the third as he makes his case to the nation in the final stretch of the election campaign.
