NSW Police arrested a 30-year-old man without incident and took him to Kempsey Police Station after an alleged pursuit and stand-off.

According to police, the man fired shots at an officer early Saturday morning.

The incident reportedly started when the man failed to stop his Subaru Impreza on Giinagay Way in Valla, north of Nambucca Heads.

Police initially gave chase but later halted the pursuit due to safety concerns, as stated in a press release.

Officers continued patrolling and later spotted the vehicle turning onto Jellico Street in Macksville, prompting them to re-engage. The suspect eventually crashed and the vehicle became stuck, according to police.

The man then allegedly fled on foot and took cover under a nearby house.

After setting up a perimeter, police say he fired multiple shots at officers.

Residents of the home were evacuated, and specialist police units were called in to negotiate.

The man was taken into custody around 9am following negotiations, with no further incident.

A crime scene has been established, and investigations are ongoing.
