Irish comedian and actress Aisling Bea has praised Sydney’s welcoming atmosphere, describing the city as having an energy that reminds her of Ireland while she films her latest movie project in Australia.
Bea is currently in Sydney working on the upcoming film “Starman” alongside Brendan Fraser and Jeff Daniels, directed by Australian filmmaker Josh Wakely. She described the project as a unique and emotional story about a man who chooses a journey to Mars rather than confronting personal struggles in a traditional way.
The actress said she has embraced life in Sydney, spending time in the city with her Australian partner and their young daughter. She praised the local culture, friendliness and humour of Sydney residents, saying the atmosphere felt familiar because of the strong social connection and “Irish energy” she experienced.
During her Australian stay, Bea also shared a special family moment by bringing her mother Helen O’Sullivan to Sydney’s famous Royal Randwick racecourse. Her mother, one of Ireland’s early female professional flat-race jockeys, previously competed at the iconic venue, making the visit a meaningful personal experience.
Bea said returning to Randwick allowed her mother to reconnect with a significant part of her past, while also giving the family a chance to explore Sydney beyond the film set. The visit highlighted the connection between Australia and Ireland through sport, culture and family history.
Known for her work in comedy, television and film, Bea has built an international career through projects including This Way Up and major screen appearances. Her latest Australian production adds another chapter to her expanding global career.
As filming continues, Bea said she is enjoying Sydney’s lifestyle and plans to explore more of the city, including popular attractions with her family.
