Internet personalities Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan intend to return to the UK to fight charges of rape, human trafficking, and other serious offences, their lawyers announced on Thursday.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) authorised the charges in January 2024, but only publicly revealed the 21 charges against the brothers on Wednesday. Both men hold dual US and UK citizenship and had been living in Romania until earlier this year.
According to their legal team at Holborn Adams, the brothers have not been given sufficient details about the allegations, including the identities of the alleged victims, which they say places them at a disadvantage. The firm suggested the high-profile nature of the case has influenced how the authorities are handling it.
Andrew Tate, 38, faces 10 charges involving three women, while his brother Tristan, 36, faces 11 charges involving one woman. The charges include rape, actual bodily harm, and human trafficking. Andrew Tate also faces an additional charge of controlling prostitution for financial gain. The alleged offences occurred between 2012 and 2015 in Bedfordshire, where the brothers grew up.
Both men continue to face separate charges in Romania. They were arrested there in 2022, but a Romanian court ruled last December that one human trafficking case could not move forward due to procedural issues. Although the UK has issued an extradition order, the CPS stated the brothers must resolve their ongoing legal matters in Europe first.
In February, the Tates were released from house arrest in Romania and have since relocated to Florida. However, their bail conditions require regular returns to Romania.
Their lawyers claim the brothers possess information that could challenge the allegations but say prosecutors and police have not engaged with them. They confirmed that Andrew and Tristan Tate will return to the UK once their Romanian legal cases conclude and plan to vigorously contest the charges.
