Australia will not take any military role in the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel in the Middle East, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced.
This information was reported by The Guardian on Sunday, June 15.
Recently, after Israel carried out a bombing attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities, both countries began launching retaliatory missile strikes. Missiles have hit Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, and at least two Iranian oil facilities have caught fire.
In this situation, the UK government has already deployed fighter jets and military equipment to the Middle East. However, on his way to the G7 summit in Canada, in response to a question in Seattle, Australian Prime Minister Albanese said that Australia will not take part in this military conflict.
He further stated that the situation is being monitored and no request for defense assistance has been received yet.
Prime Minister Albanese said, “I don’t believe Australia will be asked to play any military role. However, we will continue to fulfill our responsibility to ensure the safety of Australian citizens.”
Additionally, Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is already providing assistance to Australian nationals in the region.
