England captain Harry Kane has confirmed he once played a round of golf with US President Donald Trump in Florida, describing the unexpected encounter as a memorable and “surreal” experience.
The Bayern Munich striker said the game took place about 18 months ago during a visit to Palm Beach. According to Kane, Trump personally invited him to join the round, giving the football star a rare opportunity to meet the president in a relaxed setting away from politics and professional sport.
Kane said he accepted the invitation and enjoyed spending time with Trump on the golf course. The 32-year-old added that he played reasonably well but was particularly impressed by the president’s ability.
He praised Trump’s standard of golf and joked that he hoped he would still be able to compete at a similar level when he reached the same age.
For Kane, the experience was unusual because it brought together two prominent figures from very different worlds. He said meeting a serving US president in such informal circumstances made the occasion especially memorable.
The England captain expressed his appreciation for the invitation and said the opportunity was something he was unlikely to forget.
Kane’s confirmation came after Trump publicly referred to their golf outing earlier in the week. The president said he had previously played with the England striker and praised Kane’s talents both on the football field and on the golf course.
Trump also highlighted Kane’s contribution following England’s dramatic 3–2 victory over Mexico in the World Cup round of 16.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump described the England captain as an outstanding player before later discussing their earlier meeting in Florida.
The revelation attracted attention as England prepared for a major World Cup quarter-final against Norway in Miami.
The match was expected to feature an eagerly anticipated battle between two of international football’s leading goal scorers, with Kane spearheading England’s attack and Erling Haaland leading Norway’s forward line.
Haaland entered the quarter-final having scored seven goals in his first World Cup campaign, while Kane had registered six.
France striker Kylian Mbappé and Argentina captain Lionel Messi remained ahead in the tournament’s scoring race, with eight goals each.
While the story of Kane’s meeting with Trump generated significant interest, the England captain remained focused on his team’s World Cup campaign.
England was attempting to secure a place in the semi-finals, with the winner of the Norway clash set to face either Argentina or Switzerland in the next stage of the tournament.
For Kane, the golf round represented a rare personal encounter with one of the world’s most recognisable political figures. However, his immediate attention remained firmly on leading England further into the competition and pursuing international football’s biggest prize.
