A man has suffered life-threatening injuries following a targeted shooting at a property west of Mackay in North Queensland.
Emergency services were called to the Devereux Creek property, roughly 35 kilometres from Mackay, at around 10:20am on Tuesday.
The 33-year-old man, who lived at the property, was transported to Mackay Base Hospital. A hospital spokesperson confirmed he remains in serious condition.
Senior Sergeant Lindsay Kuhrt said the man was initially driven away from the property by his father, who was met by paramedics en route. The man was then transferred to an ambulance for the remainder of the trip to hospital.
“He has sustained a significant gunshot wound and is receiving treatment,” Senior Sergeant Kuhrt said.
A crime scene has been established at the property, and police believe a rifle was used in the attack.
While no suspects have been formally identified, police say the incident appears to have been targeted and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
