Robertson Remains a Bellwether as Labor’s Gordon Reid Retains Seat with Swing

The Central Coast electorate of Robertson has once again lived up to its reputation as Australia’s most consistent bellwether seat, with Labor’s Gordon Reid retaining the electorate and helping extend the bellwether streak to 16 consecutive elections.

By 9pm on election night, it was clear that Dr Reid — who unseated Liberal MP Lucy Wicks in 2022 — was heading toward re-election with a 3.5 per cent swing, increasing his previous 2.2 per cent margin. Addressing jubilant supporters in Ettalong, he celebrated the result, saying the people had spoken in favor of a better future for the region and the country.

Dr Reid, a Wiradjuri man, paid tribute to his grandmother Aunty Robyn Reid, who inspired his political journey. Though she predicted he’d be prime minister within 10 years, Dr Reid modestly said he still had “a few more doors to knock on.”

Lucy Wicks acknowledged the difficult campaign and thanked locals for their support, urging Dr Reid to serve with dedication in the years ahead.
