Long-Serving Hobart Obstetrician Dr Brett Daniels Charged with Sexual Offences
Tasmanian obstetrician and gynaecologist Dr Brett Anthony Daniels has been charged with two sexual offences, following an investigation by Tasmania Police’s Family and Sexual Violence Division.
Dr Daniels, who has practised medicine in Tasmania since 2002, was charged on Friday with one count of indecent assault and one count of assault with indecent intent. Police allege the incidents occurred in Hobart in 2022 and 2025.
Authorities also confirmed that additional sexual offence allegations involving Dr Daniels are currently under investigation.
The complainants in the current cases are former patients of Dr Daniels.
Before the charges, Dr Daniels worked widely across Hobart, delivering babies and performing surgeries at multiple hospitals. However, his medical registration was suspended last month by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) while the matter is investigated.
Dr Daniels is also a registered psychologist but has voluntarily agreed not to practise in that field, an undertaking published on AHPRA’s website.
In a public statement, Tasmania Police acknowledged the seriousness of the allegations:
“It is acknowledged that alleged offences of this nature are deeply disturbing, and Tasmania Police encourages anyone with information about sexual abuse to come forward and report, regardless of the passage of time.”
Dr Daniels is scheduled to appear in court on September 1.
