A man is in custody after a fatal shooting outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington DC that claimed the lives of two Israeli embassy staff.
The suspect, who allegedly shouted “Free Palestine” during the attack, has been apprehended by authorities.
Both U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have strongly condemned the incident, labeling it a clear act of antisemitism.
“These horrific killings in DC, clearly driven by antisemitism, must stop immediately!” Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social.
“Hatred and radicalism have no place in America. My condolences to the victims’ families. It’s heartbreaking that something like this could happen. God bless you all.”
Netanyahu echoed the outrage, calling the shooting “the result of dangerous incitement against Israel.”
“We are witnessing the devastating consequences of antisemitism and reckless incitement toward the State of Israel. These blood libels are literally turning into bloodshed and must be confronted without compromise,” he stated.
Ted Deutch, CEO of the American Jewish Committee (AJC), confirmed that the organisation had held an event at the museum that evening.
“We are heartbroken that an act of such senseless violence occurred outside the venue,” he said. “While we await further details from law enforcement, our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their loved ones.”
