South Australia Police (SAPOL) has appointed Richard Hill to head its technology division, following the departure of Hamish Cameron in May. Hill transitions to SAPOL from the SA Department for Infrastructure and Transport, where he served as Chief Information Officer for the past seven years.

At SAPOL, Hill steps into the role of Executive Director of Information Systems and Technology Service, overseeing several ongoing transformation initiatives.

“Richard’s background in managing complex IT operations, cloud transitions, workforce mobility, and large-scale technology projects makes him well-suited to lead the team,” a SAPOL spokesperson said.

Before joining SAPOL, Hill spent 13 years in various tech-focused roles within the Department for Infrastructure and Transport, including serving as Chief Technology Officer from 2016 to 2019 before taking on the CIO role.

“I’m honoured to have the chance to contribute to SAPOL’s mission,” Hill said. “The organisation has a skilled technology team, and I’m excited to work with them on key priorities such as the digital police station initiative, enhancing mobility for frontline officers, and ongoing system and infrastructure upgrades.”

SAPOL’s Information Systems & Technology (IS&T) division began its transformation journey in 2021 under Cameron’s leadership. The focus has been on evolving the IT department from a traditional service provider to a strategic adviser and influencer within the organisation.
