Demonstrations over alleged irregularities in India’s NEET examinations have spread beyond the country, with students and members of the Indian diaspora organising solidarity rallies in New York and London.
In New York, protesters gathered near the Mahatma Gandhi statue in Union Square on Tuesday. Carrying placards bearing messages including “Main Bhi Cockroach,” they expressed support for Indian students demanding a fair and transparent examination system.
A similar protest was held outside the Indian High Commission in London. Participants raised slogans and called for accountability over the alleged examination failures, along with wider reforms to strengthen transparency and integrity in India’s education system.
Meanwhile, the protest movement continued in New Delhi, where thousands reportedly assembled at Jantar Mantar following the July 20 “Sansad Chalo” march. The demonstrations showed little sign of slowing as students continued pressing authorities to address the alleged NEET irregularities.
The Cockroach Janata Party later withdrew its planned sit-in outside Delhi Police headquarters after saying that all demonstrators detained following the march had been released. The group had previously alleged that hundreds of supporters were detained and denied access to legal assistance, although Delhi Police rejected those claims.
Opposition parties have also backed the student-led agitation, staging demonstrations in the capital and demanding responsibility from the government over the handling of the examination controversy.
