Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that those responsible for leaking examination papers will face strict punishment, while assuring students that the government is working to make India’s examination system more secure and resistant to malpractice.
Speaking at a meeting of the National Democratic Alliance’s parliamentary party, Modi said protecting the safety, future and interests of young people remains a priority for his government. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, who briefed reporters about the closed-door meeting, said the prime minister urged political parties not to turn the issue of paper leaks into a partisan dispute.
Modi reportedly told lawmakers that the government would use every available measure to punish those involved in the alleged NEET-UG paper leak. He stressed that individuals and organised groups responsible for compromising important examinations would not be allowed to escape accountability.
The prime minister also noted that examination-paper leak networks have operated in different states under various governments over the years. He referred to arrests made in connection with the NEET-UG case and highlighted steps taken to conduct the examination again and release results without unnecessary delay.
Modi cited the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, as an important measure introduced by the central government to combat cheating, paper leaks and other organised forms of examination malpractice. The legislation was described as the first central law specifically created to address such offences.
He called for cooperation between the central and state governments to ensure that offenders receive firm punishment and that similar incidents are prevented in the future. According to lawmakers present at the meeting, Modi also said experienced lawyers should help ensure that those accused of leaking papers are properly prosecuted and do not avoid punishment through legal loopholes.
A major part of the prime minister’s speech focused on the contribution of young Indians to the country’s development. Union Minister Chirag Paswan said Modi spoke about the importance of giving young people proper guidance and shared examples of Indians who had earned recognition both nationally and internationally.
Modi also asked parliamentarians to inform the public about the achievements of Indian start-ups. He reportedly mentioned that French President Emmanuel Macron had been impressed by the progress of Indian start-ups during a recent visit.
The prime minister further referred to the young team behind Skyroot Aerospace and its successful rocket launch. Pointing to the team’s average age of 28, Modi said their early achievements demonstrated the enormous potential of India’s younger generation. He also used the example to make another political remark aimed at opposition leader Rahul Gandhi.
