The 35-year-old UK national was allegedly acting erratically when he allegedly tried to board an international flight without a ticket on Tuesday night.
He is further accused of reaching for a police officer’s gun when the Australian Federal Police arrived and started to speak to him.
Officers tried to restrain him but he allegedly resisted arrest, prompting police to deploy a taser and OC spray.
A 35-year-old UK man has been accused of attempting to board an international flight at Melbourne Airport without a ticket and then trying to grab a police officer’s firearm during the confrontation.
The incident occurred on Tuesday night, when the man was reportedly behaving erratically before allegedly trying to access a flight without a valid ticket. When Australian Federal Police approached him, he allegedly reached for an officer’s gun.
Police say the man resisted arrest, leading officers to use a taser and OC spray. Additional reinforcements were called, and he was taken into custody around 5pm on December 16.
He now faces one charge of causing harm to a Commonwealth public official and three counts of obstructing a Commonwealth public official.
AFP Detective Acting Superintendent Emily Nicholson warned that the AFP will not tolerate violence or aggressive behaviour at airports, stating, “We will take action against those who offend.”
The man has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at Melbourne Magistrates Court on March 16.
