The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has announced emergency funding of nearly CHF 1 million to support relief operations following devastating flash floods across Nepal.

The funding, equivalent to around Rs 189.5 million, will be provided through the IFRC’s Disaster Response Emergency Fund (DREF) to strengthen the Nepal Red Cross Society’s response to communities affected by the disaster.
The emergency support will help relief teams assess damage, identify urgent needs and provide assistance to people who have lost homes, suffered injuries or become isolated due to damaged roads and infrastructure.
Red Cross prioritises emergency assistance
The IFRC said the immediate priority is reaching vulnerable communities and delivering essential support to flood survivors.
“The priority now is to reach affected communities and provide assistance to people who have lost their homes, suffered injuries or have been cut off,” the organisation said in a statement.
The federation said it is closely monitoring the situation across Nepal and remains prepared to provide additional support if the humanitarian needs increase.

Nepal Red Cross begins relief distribution
The Nepal Red Cross Society has already started distributing emergency supplies in flood-affected areas.
Relief materials include clean drinking water, tarpaulins for temporary shelter, blankets, sleeping mats, first aid kits, stretchers and body bags.
The organisation is working with local authorities and emergency teams to identify communities requiring immediate humanitarian assistance.
International support for disaster response
The IFRC is assisting the Nepal Red Cross through emergency funding, operational coordination and technical expertise.
Regional and global Red Cross teams have been placed on standby to provide additional support and international resources if required.
Getting Emergency Supplies
The assistance comes as Nepal continues large-scale rescue and recovery operations following severe flash floods that damaged settlements, roads, bridges and public infrastructure in several districts.
Authorities and humanitarian organisations are continuing efforts to provide shelter, medical assistance and essential supplies to thousands of people affected by the disaster.
