Tehran said the strategic waterway would remain restricted until Washington lifts sanctions, halts military operations against Iran and provides guarantees over future actions. Iranian officials have also called for compensation linked to damage caused during the conflict.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important maritime chokepoints, carrying a significant share of global oil and gas shipments. Continued disruption has raised concerns among energy traders about supply risks, shipping costs and possible impacts on global fuel prices.
