Wayne Bennett Criticizes NRL Transfer Rules as Storm Defeat Titans in Wet Conditions

Wayne Bennett has voiced his frustration over the NRL’s ongoing lack of a structured transfer window, calling the situation “embarrassing” following the drawn-out Lachlan Galvin saga. Galvin’s signing with Canterbury on a 3.5-year deal came weeks after he turned down a Wests Tigers extension and was seen training with the Bulldogs even before his release.

Bennett said the high-profile exits of players like Daly Cherry-Evans, Dylan Brown, and now Galvin had dominated headlines mid-season and detracted from the game itself. He urged the NRL to implement transfer windows, similar to systems in European football and the AFL’s post-season trade period.

Storm Show Their Class Against Titans Despite Missing Key Players

In a rain-soaked clash at Robina, Melbourne Storm defeated the Gold Coast Titans 28-16. Despite the absence of stars Harry Grant and Xavier Coates, the Storm displayed depth and composure. Ryan Papenhuyzen, Cameron Munster, Jahrome Hughes, and Grant Anderson were standout performers in difficult conditions.

Sualauvi Faalogo scored two tries, and Grant Anderson added two of his own — including a near length-of-the-field intercept try. Jayden Campbell was the Titans’ most dangerous player, setting up multiple tries including a spectacular long pass to Phillip Sami. But Melbourne proved too consistent in the end.

Roosters Set to Field All Origin Stars Against Raiders

Roosters coach Trent Robinson confirmed that all five of the club’s Origin representatives would play against Canberra, a boost for a team climbing back up the ladder after a rough start to 2025. Veteran winger Daniel Tupou praised young centre Robert Toia and rising halfback Hugo Savala for revitalizing the squad. Toia impressed in Origin I despite Queensland’s loss, while Savala’s game plan execution was key in last week’s win over Cronulla.

The Roosters are hoping to avoid a repeat of last year’s fixture against the Raiders, which saw season-ending injuries to Sam Walker and Brandon Smith.
