Two men are in critical condition after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds in a shooting incident in Sydney’s western suburb of Parramatta.
NSW Police reported that the men were among four individuals in a vehicle that came under fire on Church Street at around 5:10pm on Sunday. The two other occupants were unharmed.
NSW Ambulance confirmed to the ABC that both injured men were treated at the scene before being transported to hospital in critical condition.
Authorities believe the attack was targeted.
Not long after the shooting, police responded to reports of a car fire on Sherwood Street in Merrylands West. Upon arrival, officers found a vehicle and a nearby tree ablaze. Investigators are looking into whether the two incidents are connected.
Crime scenes have been established at both locations, and investigations are ongoing.
Minister for Police and Counter-Terrorism Yasmin Catley condemned the violence and urged the public to assist authorities. “I am horrified by the level of violence we have seen on our streets tonight,” she said in a statement.
“I understand the community is concerned, and rightly so. I want to assure them that police are working around the clock to identify and arrest those responsible.”
