A 35-year-old woman from Gilgandra in regional New South Wales has been arrested and charged over the alleged distribution of child abuse material online.
Detectives from Strike Force Trawler arrested the woman at a home in Gilgandra on Tuesday morning after police received information about child abuse material allegedly connected to an online account registered to a person in the state’s Central West.
Police attended the property at about 7.15am to carry out the arrest.
The woman allegedly resisted officers and attempted to hinder the arrest before she was taken into custody.
She was transported to Dubbo Police Station, where she was charged with four counts of using a carriage service to make child abuse material available.
She was also charged with hindering an arrest and resisting a police officer during the execution of their duties.
Police refused the woman bail, and she was scheduled to appear before a local court on Wednesday.
Authorities have not released further details about the alleged material or the online account linked to the investigation.
Strike Force Trawler detectives are continuing their inquiries into the matter.
The allegations remain before the court, and the woman is entitled to the presumption of innocence unless proven guilty.
