A two-vehicle crash in north-eastern Victoria on Saturday has left one person dead and three others injured, according to Victoria Police.

The incident occurred just after 3:30pm on Beechworth-Wangaratta Road in Everton Upper. Detectives from the Major Collision Investigation Unit are currently examining the cause of the accident.

Police confirmed that a 74-year-old woman from Beechworth, who was driving one of the cars, died at the scene.

Ambulance Victoria reported that an elderly female passenger in her 80s sustained upper body injuries and was airlifted to the Alfred Hospital, where she remains in a serious but stable condition.

The driver of the second vehicle, a 41-year-old woman also from Beechworth, was transported to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in serious but stable condition. Her seven-year-old passenger was taken to the Royal Children’s Hospital and is in a stable condition.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the events leading up to the crash.

As of now, 122 people have lost their lives on Victorian roads this year — an increase from 110 at the same time in 2023.
