Tensions along the Line of Control (LoC) have escalated once again following Pakistan’s failed drone and missile attacks on several Indian military bases and cities. On Friday morning, heavy cross-border shelling resumed in the Kupwara and Uri sectors of Kashmir, with Indian forces responding strongly, according to NDTV.
On Thursday night, Pakistani shelling killed at least 16 civilians, including three women and five children. Security has been heightened across border regions in response to the renewed hostilities.
Widespread power outages continue in cities like Srinagar, Jammu, Punjab, and Rajasthan. Entire districts near the Punjab border experienced blackout conditions overnight, while areas in Bikaner, Jodhpur, and Barmer in Rajasthan also reported electricity cuts.
Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced that he is heading to Jammu to assess the situation following Pakistan’s failed drone incursions.
Late Thursday night, around 8:30 PM, Pakistan once again attempted drone and missile strikes targeting cities in Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Punjab. However, India’s air defense systems successfully intercepted all incoming threats. Military bases in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur were the main targets of the attacks.
In retaliation, the Indian Navy has launched strikes on Pakistani targets in the Arabian Sea. Sources claim these operations have been successful and are continuing.
As a precautionary measure, India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) temporarily shut down 24 airports on Thursday. These include Srinagar, Chandigarh, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Shimla, Jammu, Pathankot, and Jodhpur.
In Punjab, the government ordered the closure of all schools in six border districts. Educational institutions in Chandigarh and Rajasthan also remain closed. Two prominent schools in Delhi—DPS RK Puram and DPS Mathura Road—were also shut today.
Due to the ongoing conflict, today’s IPL match in Dharamshala between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals has been cancelled. The BCCI is making special arrangements to move the players safely to Delhi.
Meanwhile, U.S. Vice President JD Vance has stated that the conflict is “not America’s responsibility.” He added, “This is a war beyond our control, and there is no need for us to get involved.”
