Thousands of runners and walkers have taken to Sydney’s streets for the iconic City2Surf race, braving chilly conditions as participants made the famous 14km journey from Hyde Park in the CBD to Bondi Beach.
The 2026 event attracted a record crowd of around 90,000 participants, marking the 56th edition of one of the world’s largest fun runs. The race once again transformed Sydney into a sea of colours as competitors of all ages tackled the challenging route, including the famous Heartbreak Hill section.
The event featured elite competition alongside thousands of community runners, with Andy Buchanan winning the men’s race and Holly Campbell claiming victory in the women’s category. Both champions praised the unique atmosphere created by the huge crowds and Sydney’s iconic scenery.
Beyond the sporting achievement, this year’s race carried a strong message of community spirit and resilience. Participants gathered at the Bondi finish line, celebrating together after completing the challenging course and supporting charitable causes connected with the event.
The City2Surf has become a major part of Sydney’s cultural identity, bringing together professional athletes, charity runners, families and first-time participants every year.
