As the Iran-Israel conflict enters its seventh day, tensions continue to escalate with no signs of a ceasefire. The United States appears ready to join the conflict in support of Israel, while Iran shows no intention of stepping back, pushing the Middle East toward a deeper crisis.
Russia has issued a dire warning over the situation. Speaking at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on Wednesday (June 18), Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova declared that the world is “just millimeters away from disaster.” She stressed the urgent need for diplomacy to avoid a catastrophic outcome, warning that the situation is spiraling dangerously out of control.
For six consecutive days, Israel has been attacking Iran using drones, fighter jets, and missiles, targeting nuclear facilities and infrastructure. Iran has responded with its own counterattacks, shooting down drones and launching strikes against Israeli positions.
Amid these developments, U.S. President Donald Trump has approved military plans to strike Iran, signaling Washington’s growing involvement in the conflict.
Zakharova accused Israel of targeting not just military sites but also Iran’s peaceful nuclear development facilities and civilian infrastructure. She described the ongoing hostilities as a “monstrous game” that could lead to unpredictable consequences.
Russia has reiterated its opposition to direct U.S. military support for Israel. Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov warned that such actions could “completely destabilize” the Middle East.
Meanwhile, President Vladimir Putin has offered to mediate in the crisis. In a phone conversation with UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Putin expressed deep concern and emphasized the need for a swift diplomatic resolution. He also updated the UAE leader on Russia’s ongoing efforts to engage other regional players toward de-escalation.
