U.S. President Donald Trump’s long-envisioned military parade took place in Washington, D.C., marking the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary and coinciding with his 79th birthday. The event, featuring nearly 7,000 troops and 150 military vehicles, drew large crowds to Constitution Avenue—some cheering, others protesting.

Trump oversaw the festivities from behind bulletproof glass, swore in 250 new army recruits, and delivered a brief speech praising the military and warning adversaries. “If you threaten the American people, our soldiers are coming for you,” he declared.

This rare show of military strength—the first of its kind since the Gulf War victory parade in 1991—will cost up to $US45 million. While supporters praised the display as a celebration of security, critics slammed it as an authoritarian spectacle, particularly as Trump continues to push for deep government spending cuts.

Simultaneously, nationwide “No Kings” protests unfolded, with thousands rallying against Trump’s policies and perceived authoritarianism. In cities like New York and Los Angeles, demonstrators carried signs and chanted slogans like “No crown for a clown.” Notable figures such as actors Susan Sarandon and Mark Ruffalo joined the protests.

However, tensions escalated in Minnesota, where a planned protest was cancelled following the assassination of a Democratic lawmaker. Officials described it as a politically motivated act.Trump military parade rolls through Washington DC, as protests erupt across the US
